Fundamental Limitations on Passive Cloaking, and Beyond

Abstract: Invisibility cloaks have sparked significant interest in the field of metamaterials, and several techniques are currently used to suppress the electromagnetic scattering from different objects. In this communication we review our recent studies in understanding the fundamental bandwidth limitations of cloaking. We have applied the Bode-Fano theory of broadband matching to derive bounds on bandwidth and performance for arbitrary passive cloaking schemes, defining a framework to estimate the ultimate performance of passive cloaks.
